Week of Halloween
Dear Family and Friends,
How is everyone? I really hope that you all enjoyed Halloween a few
days ago. It sounds like it was a lot of fun for all of you. We had a
pretty crazy Halloween here in Japan as well. Anyways I hope that
everyone is doing well. I really appreciate all the emails and
pictures. This past week has been another busy week, but a lot of fun.
I just read this morning that Elder Weakley and I will be staying at
Okayama Nishi! I am actually very glad that I am not transferring
anywhere new. I love this ward and my companion is awesome! We are
going to make some good goals for this transfer to work harder and
hopefully get some baptisms.
We had a good service on Tuesday that was a lot of fun. We made some
Halloween posters and enjoyed talking to the old folks. We also made
some really strange food called mochi there. It is like a bean paste
on the inside with pounded rice heated up and covered on the outside.
It was actually really delicious. On Wednesday we had another good
Eikaiwa. A ton of people showed up this week which was fun. My
Japanese teacher that teaches me every Monday said he would come. We
had a lot of fun talking about different expressions that we use in
English. I always love going to Eikaiwa.
On Thursday last week we had TTTM (Trainer Trainee Training Meeting).
It is crazy to think that my training is already over. I feel like I
still need a lot more training than I have now. At TTTM President and
sister Welch gave us some good training on what went well last
transfer and the things we can improve on. The APs also talked to us
about their experiences and gave us some good advice. It very fun to
see all the missionaries there. Sadly, because we had such a big group
for TTTM we had to split the mission into two groups. I was not able
to see my MTC companion or very many people from my MTC district. It
was still a ton of fun though!
We had a good Zone Training Meeting on Friday. At ZTM the zone leaders
really taught us how we can get 20 lessons a week. We all need to work
harder to achieve that goal. The zone leaders are always able to speak
with the power of the spirit. After our ZTM Elder Sproat (my district
leader) and I went on an exchange. It is crazy to think that he is
finishing his mission in the next few days. He gave me some really
good advice about the mission. I feel like all the older missionaries
know everything, so it was good to talk with him about his mission.
Halloween was awesome. The Halloween costumes that my companion and I
got turned out great! We ended up going to the party as Ness and Lucas
from Super Smash Brothers. It was hilarious and even though it wasn't
the most well made set of costumes it turned out very well. We had a
blast at the ward party. We went to the Okayama church and played some
games. They had a bunch of food and games in the cultural hall. They
also put up some pinatas and had a costume show that we were part of.
I will send some pictures of the party. We did not end up carving
pumpkins, but it was still a lot of fun anyways. Some of our
investigators and less actives showed up to the party also, which was
great.
This past Sunday was fast Sunday. Sadly, we were not able to do Shu's
baptism. We haven't really been able to contact him for a while. He
said that he wanted to get prepared before, but I'm not sure what he
thinks now. Even though that turned out pretty sad, it was good to
hear the testimonies of this strong ward. I was able to get the
courage to bare my testimony to the ward also. Even though my Japanese
is not the greatest, I tried my best to let the ward really know how I
felt. It was a very good experience, one of which I won't forget.
My ponderizing scripture for this past week was Mathew 24:6. It talks
about how we will all go through trials in life, but we need not be
troubled. The Lord is always with us. At the same time however, we
must endure to the end. How is the ponderizing going for the all of
you? I hope that we can keep ponderizing a new scripture each week.
Last week I invited everyone to join me on really ponderizing about
prayers and reading. I have really taken the time to think about what
I have been reading. Reading from the bible is a little bit difficult,
as most of you know. At the same time however, because I have been
pondering I have come to understand it a lot more. I really liked what
I read in Mark 9:35. In order to return to Heavenly Father we need to
lift and serve others. My challenge for this week is to find an act of
service that you can do. It doesn't matter how simple it is, but look
for opportunities that may arise. I will be looking to serve others
this week.
Questions:
1. Yes, we had a very fun party. Our costumes turned out very good.
Weakley choro found a red and white shirt and painted the white
stripes yellow, which turned out awesome. I also taped some blue card
stock paper to my hat so that it wasn't a brown color. Sadly we did
not get to carve pumpkins, but thats okay.
2. Yes transfers are this week. Weakley choro and I are staying! I am
excited to start up the new transfer here in Okayama Nishi.
3. Cleaning the apartment is coming along great! I was told it is
probably the dirtiest apartment in the mission, but Weakley choro and
I have really worked hard to clean it up. We threw out some old
chairs. We got the shower repainted and threw out a bunch of junk in
the closets. We will probably make another video and send it when we
are finished.
4. Yes I did get the Halloween package. Thank you so much! You are the
best. Weakley choro said that I get more packages than any of the
missionaries he knows haha. That being said I am pretty good on stuff
to send. I truly do appreciate a ton, but my favorite thing is just
reading emails and seeing how everyone is doing.
Thank you so much again to everyone for all the emails of support. I
hope Halloween was a lot of fun. Lets look for some good service
opportunities this week and see what we can do. I love you all,
Hirschi 長老
